Language Selection

Diversity of Teaching Methods

A teacher stands at the  front of a classroom and recites from a yellowing old  book while  students sit still and note down each word. They are terrified of the final exams.

Luckily, this image belongs to the past. Communication and interaction are the hallmarks of language teaching at the LBS. Our goals are to increase your communicative ability in a variety of languages and to prepare you for professional and academic challenges in multilinguistic contexts. Authentic material is used to guide you on the challenging journey from simple everyday conversation to profound knowledge of a specific country, its culture and society, history and distinctiveness. We aim to provide you with tools to increase your linguistic command and range and to critically examine questions that arise when dealing with cultural diversity.

With keen attention paid to developing the four commonly accepted communication skills – reading, listening, writing, and speaking – the LBS’s language lecturers employ a variety of techniques to familiarise you with complex structures and to arouse your interest in the respective language and culture.

At the LBS, languages are taught on an academic level. French, German, Hebrew, Russian and Spanish begin at the novice level and are designed for students with little or no previous knowledge. Consistent, thorough and intensive preparation is required to successfully complete the courses. Particular significance is given to teamwork and in-class between students.
