Research and Development at LBS

Welcome to the website of the LBS Research Department!

In its research and development activities, Lauder Business School deals with Diversity-induced Chaos in Executive Management Processes. This constitutes a core research subject, which has not yet been sufficiently examined in Austria. We conceive of ‘chaos’ in terms of the social sciences and economics as a hard-to-predict situation, in which conventional management tools are prone to fail. Diversity factors such as plurilinguality, gender and religion can cause chaos or, on the contrary, extend order to chaotic settings. We are interested in not only the mere overcoming of chaos, but also chaos a learning resource and innovation trigger. Our research efforts concentrate on senior management processes in diverse teams and on highly skilled mobility in globalized business contexts.

This focus corresponds with the intercultural orientation of our degree programs and the international make-up of the LBS campus and its faculty. A multidisciplinary team of committed research fellows composed of both academic researchers and corporate practitioners, conducts projects on applied business-related research problems. All stakeholders involved profit from transnational collaboration with enterprises, non-profit organizations and other research institutes.

The LBS Research Department stands for theoretical and ontological reflection, methodological precision, and high potential for innovation. The LBS curriculum stipulates the importance of knowledge transfer from research to teaching, the instruction of research skills and the involvement of master students in ongoing projects. Moreover, as part of a comprehensive approach towards diversity, the LBS Research Department and the LBS Language Department are coordinating their endeavors. By the same token, the LBS Research Department supports all research projects during their stages of conceptualization, acquisition of external funding, project management, and the publication and dissemination of key research findings.

Our research and teaching build upon the LBS Working Definition of Interculturality and the LBS Mission Statement on Diversity and Gender .

On these pages, you are invited to explore the profiles of the LBS Research Fellows and to take an overview of ongoing and completed research projects. All issues of the LBS Brief on Diversity in Executive Management Processes  can be downloaded. Up-to-date information on the LBS Talks on Diversity in Executive Management Processes is provided. From the end of 2011, summaries of distinguished master theses and the forthcoming LBS Annual Research Report will be made accessible.

We look forward to your feedback and suggestions for potential co-operation.
