General Information
The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) is offering a six-month full-time internship in its Economic Analysis Department, starting on 1 September 2026.
The department serves as the OeNB's centre of expertise for analysing and forecasting Austria's macroeconomic development. It works closely with the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and collaborates with numerous national and international institutions on economic research and policy analysis.
The internship offers a gross monthly salary of €2,064, flexible working hours, hybrid working options, and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge macroeconomic research within Austria's central bank.
Your team
You will join the Economic Analysis Department within the OeNB's Economics Directorate. The department is responsible for monitoring, analysing, and forecasting Austria's economic performance and serves as a key expert body on macroeconomic developments.
During the internship, you will contribute to the PRISMA research network, an international research initiative focusing on price developments and firms' pricing behaviour.
Your role
As an Economic Analysis and Research Intern, you will:
Support macroeconomic analysis and forecasting of the Austrian economy.
Contribute to a research project on price developments and corporate pricing behaviour within the PRISMA research network.
Analyse pricing data from Austrian online retailers.
Expand existing datasets using web scraping techniques.
Improve data management processes for large datasets.
Develop interactive data visualisations using R Shiny dashboards.
Perform descriptive statistical and econometric analyses.
Create monitoring and analytical tools to support research activities.
Apply Large Language Models (LLMs) to classification and data-processing tasks.
Conduct literature reviews and contribute to research reports and ongoing economic studies.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Applicants should have:
Advanced Bachelor's studies or current enrollment in a Master's programme in Economics, Social Sciences, Business, or a related field.
A strong academic background in Macroeconomics and Econometrics.
A passion for working with complex datasets and extracting meaningful insights.
Advanced programming skills in R and/or Python, including experience with:
Database connections
Large datasets
Data.table
Vectorisation techniques
Proficiency with RStudio and Visual Studio Code.
A GitHub profile and/or coding portfolio demonstrating programming ability.
The ability to work independently while communicating proactively within a team.
EU citizenship or equivalent work authorization.
